應用臍血移植案例：治療脊髓受損

脊髓連接我們的大腦和身體，功能包括傳遞感官和運動信息。脊髓受損除了可能導致癱瘓，更有機會影響控制大小便等其他身體主要功能，情況可以非常嚴重。

一篇在Cytotherapy刊登的文章發表了一項研究結果：將臍血幹細胞直接移植到一位37歲脊髓受損女病人的受損脊髓部份，在移植後的41日內，病人的臀部和大腿在感官知覺和運動能力上都有所改善，受損脊髓部份更出現重生情況。研究結果相當正面，臍血幹細胞移植日後有機會成為脊髓受損病人的有效治療方法。
